Since 2015,
we have organized
to stop toxic pollution

Our Mission

The mission of The People’s Port Authority is to educate, mobilize, and support the community members of South Providence and Washington Park who are directly impacted by environmental racism. We educate our community about the facilities that threaten our health and safety, mobilize to urge closing of and limit expansion of polluting facilities, demand public accountability and community oversight, and support each other as we face systemic injustice.

As part of how we support each other, we fight for public access to the water so that residents of South Providence and Washington Park can exercise our state constitutional right to enjoy “the privileges of the shore.”

This work is about our children’s right to breathe clean air and grow up healthy.

We’ve fought to change zoning, influence leases, and demand accountability so that future generations aren’t dealing with the same toxic legacy.
